Spytec manufactures the GL300 with a Li-Polymer rechargable battery having a capacity of 1300 mAh. This is a similar kind of battery used in cell phones today.

Before diving into the specifics let us understand the battery capacity. The milliampere-hour (mAh) is a thousandth of an ampere-hour which means how much electrical charge a particular battery will hold. For example, using higher mAh batteries in a device with constant electrical consumption will keep the device going on for longer periods of time.

Spytec GL300 Battery Life:

Spytec claims that the battery will last for upto 2 weeks depending upon the type of use of course. Most of the users report they get a battery backup of around 10 to 12 days with fairly regular use.

The battery standby time of SpyTec GL300 will also depend upon the frequency of reporting. Following are the standby times specified by SpyTec.

Standy Times:

  • Without reporting : 400 Hours
  • 5 minutes reporting : 130 Hours
  • 10 minutes reporting :150 Hours

The STI_GL300 tracker also happens to have an an accelerometer which detects when the vehicle is not moving and turns off the tracker thus saving precious battery life.

Other Options

Spytec GL300 extended battery

If however you are not a fan of constantly charging your tracker every couple of weeks there is another option in store. SpyTec offers an extended battery pack along with a weatherproof case for $180 which promises 6 months of continuous battery life.

You can also hardwire the battery to the car’s electrical system using the $30 hardwire kit the company sells on its website.
