SpyTec GL300 Extended Battery Review

Image
SpyTec GL300 Extended Battery Review If you are already an owner of SpyTec GL300 then you might be aware that with normal usage the battery does not last more than 2 weeks. If the environmental conditions and cellular reception is not good then that number can go even down. Fortunately SpyTec gives the option of an extended battery that they claim lasts 6 months. That means you just need to charge it twice a year. Pretty impressive huh? Because of its small size, GL300 includes only 1 AA sized battery which needs to be charged frequently. Every 2 weeks to be precise. That turns out to be 26 times a year. If you are a fleet manager, charging and keeping track of a number of GPS trackers battery levels is going to be one big hassle. This is where Spytec’s 6 months extended battery proves to be incredibly useful. Or if you wish to track a person or an asset as they make a long duration trip around the country, the extended battery is definitely going to be a must. The ...

SpyTec GL300 GPS plans/subscription – Review and Comparison UPDATE 2021 : Spytec has updated its lineup of GPS trackers and has launched new version of GL300 GPS tracker with a host of new features. The subscription plans however remain the same. Check out the plans comparison table below to see details of individual plans. Active or real time GPS trackers almost always come with a monthly subscription plan. Consider them just like your cell phones; you have to pay the carrier a monthly fee in order to use them. In fact, GL300 tracker uses the same T-Mobile SIM card that a lot of us have in our mobile phones. This SIM card is used to send location data and other information to SpyTec server which can be accessed in real time at its portal or account interface. Like many portable real time trackers, Spytec GPS tracker offers 3 kinds of monthly subscription plans. The only difference between them is the frequency of update or refresh rate. Update frequency usually measured i...

Comparison with other GPS trackers - Spytec GPS GL300

Image
Comparison with other GPS trackers -  Spytec GPS GL300 Spot Gen3 and Trackimo 3G guardian are two popular gps trackers available that offer services quite similar to Spy Tec STI GL300. Spot Gen3 offers monthly plans but the minimum update frequency in its basic plan is 5 minutes. Its basic plan costs $20 per month. If you wish to increase the update frequency you can subscribe to its extreme tracking plan for an extra $10 per month to give you a refresh rate of 2 ½ minutes which is still longer than SpyTec.  Trackimo’s 3G guardian offers a better plan than the above two devices. It costs $5 monthly to or $60 annually to keep the subscription active. However, the cost of the device is $138.9 which is more than SpyTec_STI GL300. https://www.spytecgl300.com/

Placement of the Spytec GPS GL300 Tracker

Image
Placement of the  Spytec GPS GL300  Tracker The GL300 needs to have as much access to the open sky as possible to retain its connection to the GPS satellites. Tracker cannot be surrounded by metal since it will block GPS signals. DO NOT hide the GL300 in metal enclosures. DO NOT place it in the middle of the undercarriage, the engine compartment, wheel wells, metal bumpers, the trunk, glove compartment, or in any closed/lidded compartment. The best position for the device within a vehicle is under the driver or passenger seat. When placing the GL300 under a vehicle, position it on a flat part of the frame towards the edge of the vehicle with the LEDs on the face of the device facing the pavement. When you get low to the ground, you should be able to see the device. https://manuals.plus/

Placing the Spytec GPS GL300 tracker

Image
Placing the Spytec GPS GL300 tracker Spytec GL300 recommends placing the tracker in a position where it can get maximum access to open sky. This should not be a problem when it’s being carried around and used for tracking people, pets or moving objects. However if you intend to place the GL300 tracker in vehicles where it is not easily discoverable, there are a couple of points to keep in mind: Spytec GL300 GPS tracker should never be completely surrounded by metal. Doing so hinders the device’s ability to receive GPS signal. If you are placing the tracker on the vehicle chassis, make sure the LEDs are facing downwards towards the road. According to Spytec, the best location to place the tracker in a car or truck is under the front seats. I personally do not recommend placing the tracker in glove box, bumpers, under the hood or in wheel arches because it leads to connectivity issues in most cases. Spytec GL300 can also be hardwired to your car’s battery. Check out the...

Spytec GL300 Battery Life

Image
Spytec GL300 Battery Life Car GPS trackers like SpyTec GL300 can help you track down your stolen car, keep tabs on your teenager, know the whereabouts of your driver and locate the position of the vehicle in case of an accident. One of the first things that come to mind when thinking about buying a new portable device is its battery life. When we are dealing with products like portable GPS vehicle tracker it makes sense to do some research on this topic before buying one because an out of juice or dead GPS car tracker is as good as no car tracker at all. In this post I will discuss the battery life and performance of SpyTec_STI GL300 GPS tracker. Spytec manufactures the GL300 with a Li-Polymer rechargable battery having a capacity of 1300 mAh. This is a similar kind of battery used in cell phones today. Before diving into the specifics let us understand the battery capacity. The milliampere-hour (mAh) is a thousandth of an ampere-hour which means how much electrical cha...

What do the LED lights on my GL300 mean?

Image
What do the LED lights on my GL300 mean? The GL300 has three status LEDs that can clue you in to what is currently going on with your tracker. Those three LEDs are: Blue GPS LED The top LED, the GPS LED, tells us the status of the GPS connection. The GPS connection is what allows the tracker to get an accurate location position. The blue LED will flash when connecting to the network and will turn solid blue once it obtains a GPS signal. After turning solid, the light will continue to flash, then turn solid each time it gets a lock. The LED going dark could indicate either the device is in standby or has lost signal. A quick way to test is to simply move the device. If connected, the blue LED will light up almost immediately. Red PWR LED The middle LED is the red PWR LED. This LED informs you about the battery status of your GL300, especially during charging. When charging the red LED will flash, then will go solid when fully charged. During normal usage, the PWR LED will turn on...
