SpyTec GL300 Extended Battery Review

If you are already an owner of SpyTec GL300 then you might be aware that with normal usage the battery does not last more than 2 weeks. If the environmental conditions and cellular reception is not good then that number can go even down.

Fortunately SpyTec gives the option of an extended battery that they claim lasts 6 months. That means you just need to charge it twice a year. Pretty impressive huh?

Because of its small size, GL300 includes only 1 AA sized battery which needs to be charged frequently. Every 2 weeks to be precise. That turns out to be 26 times a year. If you are a fleet manager, charging and keeping track of a number of GPS trackers battery levels is going to be one big hassle. This is where Spytec’s 6 months extended battery proves to be incredibly useful. Or if you wish to track a person or an asset as they make a long duration trip around the country, the extended battery is definitely going to be a must.

The battery comes in weatherproof case with 4 industrial quality magnets at its bottom. The box ccan be stuck on the bottom of your vehicle or its chassis. The quality of the box is pretty impressive too. It’s the size of 6x10x4 inches and weighs 1.7 pounds. The magnets are really superstrong and hold the box securely in place. The weatherproof design of the box repels any dirt, dust, water or snow from entering inside the box. The problem I found with the product was that there were no instructions provided. The battery had multiple wires coming out from it and not directions which goes where. Also the box can become awfully tricky to detach from the car’s underbody or chassis because of the extremely strong magnets.

All in all the 6 months extended battery for SpyTec STI_GL300 is a good product if you require tracking assets for longer duration or do not want to constantly keep charging the battery. The weatherproof case is solid and can withstand any weather or environment with ease. The product is priced at $180 on the official website which is a bit pricey but if you take into consideration the value for money and the long time benefits of this device then I believe it is not a bad deal at that price.
